    • The tourist visa is available for 30 days and is renewable.

    • The cost of the visa is around US$30

    • Passports must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry required.

    Hunting Methods & Shot Placement

Most Zimbabwe hunts are classified as “safari style” which works well with the wild, untamed African destination. Members of the hunting party will set out in a 4×4 vehicle to search for the Cape buffalo and spoor. Once tracks are spotted, the tracker and team will then set off on foot, using the walk-and-stalk method.

The terrain is not exceptionally difficult to cover but knowing that this unpredictable beast with incredibly sharp horns and an even worse attitude could turn and charge a person, I would ensure that my fitness is certainly in the “fighting fit” category.

While dangerous game hunting, you need to be prepared for anything – and you don’t want to be out in the bush, with a Cape buffalo charging, and wishing you had given your cardio workouts more attention!

At the end of the day, it is your shot placement that remains critical. Learn all you can about shot placement for Cape buffalo and ensure that you are familiar with and comfortable with your chosen rifle.

While bow hunting of Cape buffalo is permitted in Zimbabwe, there are quite a few rules and regulations related thereto, and it is best to speak to your African outfitter directly.

    Health, Safety, And Vaccination Tips

Staying healthy and safe is just as important as good gear when planning your hunting safari.

    • Vaccinations: Check with your doctor for required and recommended shots, such as yellow fever, hepatitis A/B, tetanus, and typhoid.

    • Malaria Prevention: Malaria is a risk, particularly in the Zambezi Valley and Hwange. Taking prescribed anti-malarials, wearing long sleeves in the evenings, and using bed nets is standard practice.

    • Water Safety: Drink bottled or purified water and avoid ice in off-grid areas.

    • First Aid: Pack a personal kit for small injuries, pain relief, and blisters.

    • Insurance: Pick travel and medical coverage that includes remote evacuation, since quick access to hospitals in areas like Matetsi can be challenging.

    Why go Hunting in Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe remains a popular African hunting safari destination. Here are a few reasons why Zimbabwe remains a sought-after hunting destination:

      • Zimbabwe is one of the few African destinations where hunters can enjoy the feeling of a truly wild African game hunting experience.

      • Zimbabwe allows hunters to enjoy the “Africa of old” with mainly free-range hunting safaris.

      • The country is home to abundant wildlife, including members of the Big 5, Dangerous 7, African plains game, and specialty hunting species to enjoy when hunting in Africa.

      • It is known for consistently producing excellent game hunting trophies.

      • Hunting in Zimbabwe is also seen as being affordable when compared to other African game hunting destinations.

      • It is also one of the only African destinations where leopards can still be hunted with hounds.

      • And while rhino hunting is not permitted in Zimbabwe, the destination is home to the elephant, lion, Cape buffalo, and leopard, ensuring some exceptional Big Five hunting trips in the region!

      • Zimbabwe is also home to numerous tourist attractions, making it the perfect destination to enjoy pre- or post-hunting activities with your partner or family.
